Background:

David’s professional experience provides a strong foundation in corporate legal documentation and business strategy, relevant to the entrepreneurial focus of initio.

David is currently a JD Candidate (expected 2026) at the Schulich School of Law, where his academic achievements include receiving the Alistair Fraser Scholarship (2023) and the Mitacs Business Strategy Internship Award (2024). David earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics & International Relations, with a Minor in History, from St. Thomas University, where he was named Valedictorian for the Class of 2022.

As a Business Strategy Intern at Sandpiper Ventures, he gained direct exposure to venture capital operations. A key responsibility included conducting due diligence and review on various legal documents, such as Investment Agreements, Employment contracts, Limited Partnership Agreements, and Tax Restrictions. He also participated in numerous deal and portfolio team meetings, gaining insight into monitoring portfolio companies.

As a Summer Law Student at Cox & Palmer, David conducted research and assisted in the resolution of numerous legal files across a variety of practice areas, including business and IP. He also facilitated communication between the firm and third parties, such as clients and court officials, to ensure efficient service provision.

Additionally, David served as a Research Assistant at Dalhousie University, where he conducted multi-jurisdictional research on third-party litigation funding in Class actions. This work included collaborating on a country report on the topic for a European Union Commission Study alongside Professor Camille Cameron, KC. His prior experience also includes working as a Development and Donor Relations Associate at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, where he led a membership department catering to over 1000 members, secured operational funding through grant research, and organized fundraising events that cumulatively raised over $300,000.

Upon completion of his JD in 2026 he will be returning to Cox & Palmer for his articling term.
